by Brian Cockburn

This Grade 2 work for string orchestra is the first movement of the composer’s three movement Welsh Suite based on pieces found in a Renaissance lute manuscript. Employing limited range, careful bowing, a mix of arco and pizzicato as well as  minimal cross-bar bowing and hemiola, the composer presents a lovely work that is sensitive to historical accuracy and offers new learning opportunities for a young ensemble.
